Overview

As a Lead Surgical Technologist, you’ll take on a vital leadership role in the OR, guiding your team and ensuring patients receive the safest, most advanced surgical care. Working alongside a highly experienced, collaborative surgical team, you’ll bring order, precision, and confidence to the operating room.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications.
  • Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures.
  • Maintains a safe sterile field by: positioning sharps correctly; labeling all medications on sterile field; understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the OR; participating in a “timeout” with the rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
  • Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instruments to ensure no foreign object is left inside the patient.
  • Understands the principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
  • Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture.
  • Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology.
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience is Required.
  • High School Graduate / GED.
