Overview
Surgical Enhanced Technologist provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. Trains colleagues on various skills and tasks. Acts as a resource or mentor to colleagues with less experience.
This is a part time position worked 3, 8 hour days per week. Days will vary.
Responsibilities

- Provide assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards.
- Assist in the turnover of the operating room after procedures, including routing and processing of specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
- Work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
- Train colleagues on various skills and tasks and act as a resource or mentor to less experienced staff.
Qualifications
- Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
- Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
- Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
- Must be an expert in advanced technology within specialty service (e.g., lasers, robotics, navigational technology, Implantable Electronic Devices such as pacemakers, VADs, VNS).
- Requires documentation of 19 Contact Hours of Continuing Education.
- Requires knowledge of the name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
- Requires completion of selected documentation for review by the region's Surgical Technologist Steering Committee and an interview with the committee.
- Requires a minimum of 1 year OR experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
