Clinical Role

RecruitWell is seeking a Board-Certified Neurosurgeon for an urgent locums opportunity in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is a hospital-based inpatient assignment providing 24-hour Neurosurgery call coverage, including general Neurosurgery, spine, and cranial cases. One locum provider is requested.

Assignment Details

• Start date: October 19, 2026

• Assignment duration: October 19, 2026-January 4, 2027

• Urgent coverage need

• One locum provider requested

• Hospital-based inpatient setting

• 24-hour coverage blocks

• Daily caseload: Approximately 5-7 patients

• 7 operating rooms available

• November 2 at 7:00 am-November 9 at 7:00 am

• November 9 at 7:00 am-November 16 at 7:00 am

• November 16 at 7:00 am-November 23 at 7:00 am

• November 23 at 7:00 am-November 30 at 7:00 am

• November 30 at 7:00 am-December 7 at 7:00 am

• December 7 at 7:00 am-December 14 at 7:00 am

• December 14 at 7:00 am-December 21 at 7:00 am

• December 21 at 7:00 am-December 28 at 7:00 am

• December 28 at 7:00 am-January 4, 2027 at 7:00 am

Schedule & Call Coverage

• 24-hour call coverage

• Shift: 7:00 am-7:00 am

• Covers the primary facility

• Also provides phone-only transfer consultations for another facility

• Weekend average callbacks: Approximately 2

• Weekend average admissions: 1-2

• Weeknight callbacks: Approximately 5-8 calls per day

• Weeknight admissions: Approximately 3-4 per week

Practice Setting & Case Mix

• Inpatient Neurosurgery

• Adult general Neurosurgery

• General spine

• Cranial cases

• Emergency and inpatient consults

• Transfer consultation support

Clinical Details & Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour Neurosurgery call coverage

• Evaluate and manage inpatient Neurosurgery patients

• Respond to urgent and emergent consultations

• Provide phone-only transfer consultations as needed

• Manage operative and non-operative Neurosurgical cases

• Perform general Neurosurgery, spine, and cranial procedures as clinically indicated

Procedures & Skills

Preferred procedural experience includes:

• Adult general Neurosurgery

• General spine procedures

• Cranial procedures

• Other standard inpatient Neurosurgical procedures

Support & Technology

• 2 flexible MDs

• 1 Physician Assistant

• EMR: Epic

• 7 operating rooms

Requirements & Credentialing

• Board Certified in Neurosurgery required

• Active Virginia medical license required

• Virginia DEA required, or active DEA registered to a Virginia address
