Qualifications
• MD or DO from an accredited medical school
• Completion of ACGME-accredited general surgery residency
• Board certified or board eligible in general surgery
• Fellowship training in surgical critical care preferred for the intensivist position
• Eligible for Connecticut medical licensure
• Three or more years of experience preferred; outstanding early-career candidates considered
• Leadership candidates should have demonstrated trauma or acute care surgery leadership experience
• Visa sponsorship (J-1 or H-1B) not available
Position Details
• Seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Acute Care Surgeon to join the practice.
• Busy community teaching hospital and designated Level III Trauma Center, pursuing Level II verification in 2028
• Two openings: Acute Care Surgeon/Surgical Intensivist, and a Trauma Program leadership role
• Scope: trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care
• Trauma program evaluated more than 2,600 trauma patients and admitted over 1,300 in 2025
• Team of seven full-time acute care and trauma surgeons, seven full-time trauma APPs, and more than 25 surgical and critical care APPs
• Collaborative multidisciplinary trauma and critical care teams
• Growing robotic emergency general surgery program
• Twelve-hour shifts with protected non-clinical time
• Well-established, growing program
• Provide trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care services
• Develop an elective surgery practice based on individual interests
• Clinical faculty appointment with an affiliated medical school
• Research and teaching opportunities
• Leadership role: help grow the trauma program, mentor surgeons and APPs, support quality initiatives, and prepare for Level II designation
