Job Description: Supply Chain Director

Company: Chalet Desserts

Location: 2701 Land Ave. Sacramento, CA 95815

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Overview

Chalet Desserts is a Sacramento based manufacturer of cake pops, cheesecake, and cookie dough, supplying major yogurt shops and ice cream manufacturers nationwide. We are seeking a Supply Chain Director to lead and unify our purchasing and customer service functions, reporting directly to the CFO. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building a cohesive, end to end supply chain that supports our growth while protecting quality, cost, and service levels, and the ideal candidate is someone who leads from the floor, not from behind a desk. This is a 100% on site role.

Key Responsibilities

Supply Chain Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute an integrated supply chain strategy spanning procurement, inventory, and order fulfillment.
  • Provide direct leadership to the Purchasing Manager and Customer Service Manager, setting goals, coaching performance, and building bench strength.
  • Partner with the CFO and executive team on capacity planning, capital investments, and long-range operational strategy.
  • Translate company growth targets into supply chain capabilities, staffing plans, and process improvements.
  • Set and monitor inventory policies (safety stock, reorder points) to prevent shortages and minimize excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Analyze demand trends and seasonality to guide purchasing decisions across the supply chain.
  • Ensure all supply chain activities comply with Plant, State, Federal, FDA, HACCP, and BRC food safety regulations.
  • Partner with Quality and Production to maintain traceability, product specifications, and audit readiness.
  • Other Duties as assigned by senior leadership

Purchasing & Supplier Oversight

  • Oversee sourcing, purchasing, and supplier management for all food and non-food materials, in partnership with the Purchasing Manager.
  • Drive strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier diversification, and cost-savings programs without compromising quality or reliability.
  • Review and approve key vendor contracts, pricing agreements, and terms negotiated by the purchasing team.
  • Monitor supplier performance (quality, service, delivery) and hold vendors accountable to agreed standards.

Customer Service & Order Fulfillment

  • Oversee the Customer Service Manager and team to ensure order accuracy, on-time fulfillment, and a high standard of customer experience.
  • Align customer service, sales, and operations to manage order promising, allocation, and exception handling.
  • Serve as an escalation point for significant customer or fulfillment issues, driving root-cause resolution.

Cost Control, Budgeting & Reporting

  • Own the supply chain budget, including purchasing spend, freight, and labor costs.
  • Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for cost, inventory turns, on-time delivery, and service levels.
  • Identify and deliver cost-savings and productivity initiatives across purchasing, warehousing, and logistics.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Champion ERP and inventory system optimization to improve data accuracy and cross-functional visibility.
  • Identify and lead process improvement projects across the supply chain using lean or continuous improvement principles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor#39;s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive supply chain, purchasing, or operations leadership experience, with prior experience managing managers or multiple functions.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or CPG strongly preferred; familiarity with FDA, HACCP, and BRC requirements.
  • Demonstrated success leading purchasing, warehouse/logistics, and/or customer service teams within the same organization.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to build and interpret KPIs, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel; experience implementing or optimizing systems is a plus.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment and spending time on the production and warehouse floor.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to spend time on the production and warehouse floor, including walking, standing, and occasional reaching, kneeling, or stooping.
