Supervising AttorneyThe Supervising Attorney oversees our New York Legal Response team, leading a team to meet the critical legal needs of these recent arrivals. The Supervising Attorney is primarily responsible for overseeing both the substantive legal and administrative components of the program, supervising paralegals, volunteer attorneys and law students, and ensuring the provision of quality legal services for recent-arrivals on Long Island.ResponsibilitiesDevelop, administer, and oversee CARECEN's New York Legal Response programming in collaboration with the Legal DirectorSupervise two paralegals, pro bono attorneys and law school studentsReview and provide feedback for all applications and forms completed, both by paralegals and pro bono attorneys and law school studentsProvide and/or identify relevant training opportunities for program staff and volunteersMaintain detailed records and reporting data for relevant grant and/or case managementDirect RepresentationProvide direct representation to a limited number of recently-arrived non-citizens who are in removal proceedingsLiaise with partner community-based organizations and other stakeholders to provide pro se clinicsRepresent CARECEN in rapid response coalitions and meetingsOther duties as assignedQualificationsAdmitted and in good standing to the practice of law in New YorkThree or more years' experience in both affirmative and defensive immigration law (law school experience will be considered)Prior experience supervising legal teamsExcellent organizational, computer, research and communication skillsCreative, collaborative, self-directed and detail orientedMust be compassionate, exercise discretion, and possess cross-cultural sensitivityFluency in Spanish and English requiredEmail a detailed cover letter explaining why this job would be a great fit for you, a résumé and three (3) references to with "NYLR Supervising Attorney" in the subject line.
