Superintendent/Foreman
The Superintendent/Foreman manages daily site activities, ensuring that each project is constructed safely, on schedule, within budget and in accordance with design and quality standards. The role directly supervises lead personnel and staff on each site and is responsible for hiring, performance management, and compliance with all relevant laws and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate daily with General Superintendents to identify workforce and equipment needs.
- Coordinate work crews and schedule subcontractors; monitor subcontractor work to ensure compliance with agreements.
- Maintain a safe working environment, conduct daily Job Hazard Analysis meetings, stretching sessions, and weekly toolbox talks.
- Complete daily record keeping, including logs, equipment and material schedules, and time cards.
- Manage field personnel fairly and equitably, addressing performance issues as they arise.
- Participate in pre‑construction meetings to discuss project startup and planning.
- Lead regular job site meetings throughout the project lifecycle.
- Document safety incidents, equipment damage, and work‑place injuries according to company procedures.
- Inspect field work and materials for quality compliance; review manufacturer literature and drawings before work begins.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or community members.
- Support and participate in training on construction methods and safety; provide training opportunities for staff.
- Keep supervisors informed of any actions that may affect project success or company operations.
Qualifications
- Two to five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and training.
- OSHA 10‑hour (preferred), OSHA 30‑hour, HAZWOPER certificate, Excavating Safety Training, Blueprint Training, CPR, First Aid (certification required).
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting policies, reports, plans, specifications, and legal documents.
- Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, iPad, and iPhone for scheduling and documentation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills at all levels.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present effectively to groups and individuals.
- Mathematical proficiency: fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions applied to field quantity situations.
- Analytical skills: defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Proficient in interpreting technical instructions in written, diagrammatic, or mathematical form.
- Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug test.
- Must be over the age of 18.
- Union affiliation or willingness to join the union is required.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Physical Demands
The position requires lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, stretching, stooping, and kneeling on a regular basis. Employees must be able to work in variable weather and terrain conditions.
Work Environment
The role involves exposure to running machines, loud construction noise, variable weather (rain, snow, wind, heat, cold), and uneven terrain. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
