This role offers genuine leadership responsibility, exposure to complex high-profile projects, and a clear path toward senior and principal-level advancement.Position Summary: The SUE Project Manager will lead utility investigations across a portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects. You'll own projects from proposal through final deliverables, managing field crews, client relationships, and technical quality in accordance with ASCE 38 standards (Quality Levels A, B, C, & D).
This is a hands-on leadership role—you'll mentor staff, shape workflows, and serve as the technical point of contact for clients and design partners.Compensation for this position is $85,000.00 - $145,000.00/annually, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesManage SUE projects end-to-end: scopes, schedules, budgets, and final deliverablesLead or contribute to proposal development and client presentationsOversee utility designation and test hole operations in the fieldEnsure compliance with ASCE 38 and industry best practices across all work productsCoordinate with engineers, survey teams, and utility owners throughout project lifecycleImplement and enforce QA/QC procedures for field data and CAD deliverablesAbility to read and interpret utility company records/plansPossess and maintain utility records contacts for records researchReview utility mapping for accuracy and continuityMentor and develop SUE technicians and junior project staffPrepare technical reportsManage multiple SUE crews and subcontractors across concurrent projectsNonessential functions and responsibilitiesPerform other related duties as assignedRequired ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent8–10+ years of experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering or utility mappingDemonstrated experience managing SUE projects from proposal through closeoutStrong working knowledge of ASCE 38 utility quality levelsDemonstrated experience reviewing data for consistency and accuracyExperience coordinating with design engineers, survey teams, and utility ownersStrong communication, client-facing, and leadership skillsPreferred Experience Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licenseExperience on DOT or municipal infrastructure projectsKnowledge of utility designation equipment and field techniquesExperience managing multiple crews and subcontractors simultaneouslyExperience in Microstation ORD or Autodesk AutoCADBenefitsJMT offers outstanding opportunities for career and professional growth.

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
