Position Summary: Travels to and works in the various buildings owned by Fargo Public Schools covering staff shortages. Cleaning and maintenance of the district's buildings and grounds. Work hours will vary, but are primarily 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm.
Rate is $14.54 per hour for substitute custodians.
Responsibilities:
  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Keeps assigned work area neat and clean at all times.
  • Vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, mops, waxes, polishes, and scrubs floor surfaces.
  • Cleans and dusts furnishings
  • Washes windows and mirrors.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, showers, and locker rooms.
  • Keeps cleaning equipment clean and in proper operating condition.
  • Cleans chalkboards and whiteboards on a regular basis.
  • Collects trash and places it in trash collection receptacles.
  • Moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Sets up and tears down for special events.
  • Shovels snow as needed from steps and sidewalks.
  • Applies sand and ice melting materials to steps and sidewalks as needed.
  • Reports items that are in need of repair.
  • Assures that exterior doors are locked in accordance to the building schedules, all doors and windows are secure, and lights and equipment are shut off.
  • Raises and / or lowers flags at the prescribed times.
  • Keeps grounds free of trash, mows lawns, and trims trees as directed.
  • Substitutes for other district employees when needed
  • Participate in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
Qualifications:
  • General knowledge of custodial procedures and safety practices.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year custodial experience preferred.
  • Must be able to self-transport to different district locations within Fargo-Moorehad metro area.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel objects, controls, equipment, and to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders. The employee will frequently bend and twist at the neck and torso while performing job duties. The employee must frequently lift or move items weighing up to 50 lbs. And will occasionally lift or move items up to 100 lbs. The employee will occasionally work at a height of up to 50 ft. The employee will sometimes push or pull items such as custodial equipment, furniture, bleachers, and portable staging. The employee will regularly work indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate to loud.
