NOTICE OF VACANCY
SUBSTATION TECHNICIAN I
(Current opening is in the System Control-Test Section of the Power System Operations Department)
1. Minimum Certification Requirement
Associate's degree in electrical or electronic engineering technology from an accredited institution is required.
No experience is required.
2. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
a. Assist in testing, troubleshooting and calibrating of remote terminal units and associated field inputs with SCADA applications.
b. Assist in maintaining and testing of communications circuits and equipment for relaying, analog and digital carriers, fiber optic equipment, telephones, radio, radar, oscillograph and digital fault recorder and associated equipment.
c. Assist or test for locating electromagnetic and radio frequency interference problems on electric system lines and equipment and may oversee correction of the problem.
d. Assist in or perform high voltage insulation tests of aerial devices for safety, power cables, pilot wire cables, transformers, breakers, arresters, and other substation equipment.
e. Assist in testing, setting and checking the tripping of protective relaying, network protectors, circuit breakers, oil switch reclosers, capacitors and other related equipment.
f. Update databases, spreadsheets and other programs on the personal computer.
g. Complete training program for Substation Technician I including written materials and/or on the job training.
h. Assist in locating and correcting alarms and equipment malfunctions. Read and interpret manuals, electrical and mechanical prints to aid in troubleshooting.
i. Routine exposure to high and low voltages in performing job tasks.
j. Perform work in a safe manner to protect employees, the public, and property.
3. Working Conditions
The working environment of this job includes physical surroundings that are somewhat undesirable. At least one undesirable element is usually present such as noise, dust, heat, oil, dampness, or weather. There is occasional exposure to other undesirable elements. This job demands moderate physical effort. Regularly moves or lifts medium weight objects (15 to 40 pounds). Frequently walks or stands for significant periods. May require recurring bending, crouching, stretching or reaching.
4. Additional Requirements
NOTE: The selection process for this position will involve behavioral interviews.
Subject to 24-hour call.
5. Special Licensing and Certification
Must have a valid Class D driver's license from state of residence in accordance with state law.
NOTE:
The current Minimum rate is $36.12 per hour, and the Maximum rate is $51.03 per hour.

- Employees must not have a positive drug or alcohol test result within the past 12 months prior to a job posting.
- Employees must not have any disciplinary actions that include suspension without pay within the past 12 months prior to the job posting. The disciplinary action date is defined as the first day of suspension.
- Employees must have a "2.5" overall job performance on their last performance appraisal.
- Employees must have taken and passed the most recent Safety Manual Test to certify for any job that would be a promotion.
