Job Description
- Perform engineering and design for new substations and substation expansions (12kV through 500kV).
- Develop one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, protection and control drawings, and physical layouts.
- Prepare equipment specifications for transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, relays, bus systems, and associated substation equipment.
- Conduct engineering studies including load flow, short-circuit, grounding, insulation coordination, and relay coordination analyses.
- Support protection and control design activities and coordinate with relay engineering teams.
- Review vendor drawings and technical submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, utility clients, and other engineering disciplines.
- Support construction activities by responding to RFIs, reviewing field changes, and participating in commissioning efforts.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and regulations, including IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC, and utility-specific requirements.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining quality standards.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Substation Engineer should have:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 3+ years of substation engineering experience. (Level may be adjusted based on experience.)
- Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems.
- Experience with substation physical and/or protection & control design.
- Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE, ANSI, NESC, and NEC.
- Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ETAP, SKM, CYME, ASPEN, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
