OAOA Academic Strategists assist OAOA students with their academic development while at the College. Examples of skills the Academic Strategists must be able to provide support on include (but are not limited to): exam preparation, test-taking, note-taking, giving presentations, proper citations, and more. This position is an opportunity to build professional skills, increase your engagement with the OAOA community, and have a positive impact on your OAOA peers.
This position is a student employment position with up to 5 hours each week for the fall semester, with the potential option to return spring semester based on performance and interest. Academic Strategists report to the OAOA Assistant Director.
Membership in OAOA is required for this position.

Academic Strategists are accountable for the following:
- Providing OAOA students with personalized academic support in response to OAOA student needs
- Conducting outreach to OAOA students to encourage usage of services.
- Holding weekly office hours and connecting with students to meet by appointment as needed.
- Leading one academic skills workshop per semester.
- Fostering a welcoming & inclusive environment and modeling integrity and respect for each other, OAOA, and IC.
- Adhering to confidentiality and privacy policies established by OAOA and IC.
- Participating in professional development, including mandatory SLI sessions, training sessions, and supervisor 1:1s.
- Other responsibilities & tasks as assigned.
- Excellent listening, written & communication skills
- Empathetic and able to normalize anxieties around academic struggle
- Preference for previous experience providing tutoring or other academic support, including education courses
- Ability to exercise patience and creativity with students who may be struggling with content and motivation to complete work while ensuring student accountability and growth
- Must be a participant in OAOA.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0.
