Student Mentor 10-Month Position
A student mentor is responsible for guiding students in their educational and personal development, encouraging them to reach their full potential. They establish relationships with students, administration, staff, and counselors. Their services can benefit all students -- from high-achieving students, "middle of the pack," and those most at-risk. They further broaden students' social connections by encouraging them to participate in school activities. The structure of the mentoring program allows mentors to share knowledge, skills, values, experiences, and expertise.
Bachelor's Degree; ideally in the fields of Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, and/or Social Work
Reports to our Director of Counseling & Student Services. Educate students on the value of quality choices, the importance of goal-setting, and career exploration. Provide guidance, motivation, emotional support, and model positive behavior. Teach life skills, the value of education, and how to create a thriving future. Communicate with parents, students, and staff. Monitor students and problem-solve with students, family, and staff. Hold monthly check-ins (at a minimum) with mentees, counselors, and administrators to assess progress toward achieving mentees' goals and identify changes to be made. Conduct home visits, as needed.
Salary $42,500 Health Benefit is provided up to single coverage, or an opt-out payment is available if waiving coverage Enrollment in the State NJ (PERS) Retirement System Sick, and personal days are provided.
