Student Assistant - Library - Operations Assistant (Fall 2026)

Student AssistantThe Student Assistant will support the Library as an Operations Assistant on the Armstrong Campus beginning Fall 2026. The Student Assistant provides support to the Library General Operations through customer service, basic technology troubleshooting, entry-level research assistance, and library resources. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.Responsibilities include:Providing general information about library facilities and servicesDirecting patrons to appropriate staff for specialized assistanceAnswering phone calls courteously, transferring, handling, or recording messages as neededManaging circulation tasks, including charging/discharging books, equipment, and reserve itemsArranging returned items in call number order and shelves circulating booksAssisting patrons with computers, photocopiers, and scanningMaintaining paper and toner in printers; sensitizing books for circulationEmptying book drops regularly and organizing materials for shelvingShelf-reading and straightening books in assigned areasProcessing GIL Express and Interlibrary Loan materialsUpdating patron records and assisting with opening and closing the libraryShift specifics include up to 15 hours per week, flexible with schedule of availability, must be flexible and available to work/cover shifts as needed, including weekends, and must be available for at least one weekly opening shift (8AM), at least one weekend shift, and willing to cover additional shifts when necessary.Required qualifications include being enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.Proposed salary is $10.00 per hour.
