Reading Instructor Remote

Lakeside Literacy & Dyslexia is growing, and we’re looking for a passionate, knowledgeable Reading Instructor to join our team and provide virtual literacy instruction to students.

Lakeside Literacy & Dyslexia provides individualized, evidence-based literacy instruction designed to help struggling readers build the skills and confidence they need to become successful readers. Our instruction is grounded in the Science of Reading and uses a highly structured, systematic, multisensory, Orton-Gillingham-based approach.

As our virtual services continue to expand, we are looking for an instructor who is excited about helping students with reading challenges and who enjoys building meaningful relationships with students and families.

Position: Reading Instructor

Location: Remote

Compensation: $25 $45 per hour

Schedule: Flexible/part-time, based on student availability

Format: 100% virtual instruction/zoom.

What You’ll Do

• Provide individualized, 1:1 reading instruction to students virtually.

• Deliver structured, systematic, evidence-based literacy instruction.

• Support students in developing skills in phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language.

• Follow Lakeside Literacy & Dyslexia’s instructional approach, curriculum, and lesson structure.

• Build positive, encouraging relationships with students who may have experienced frustration or difficulty with reading.

• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on individual student needs.

• Communicate professionally with families regarding student progress and areas for continued practice.

• Maintain accurate lesson notes and student records.

• Participate in ongoing professional development and collaborate with the Lakeside Literacy team.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Special Education, Speech/Language, or a related field.

• Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.

• Experience providing reading or literacy instruction.

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

• Reliable internet connection and a professional environment suitable for virtual instruction.

• Ability to build rapport with students and create a positive, supportive virtual learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training or certification in Orton-Gillingham or another structured literacy approach.

• Experience working with students with dyslexia or other reading difficulties.

• Knowledge of the Science of Reading.

• Experience with structured literacy, explicit phonics, phonological awareness, morphology, spelling, fluency, and reading comprehension.

• Experience providing virtual/online instruction.

• Teaching license or advanced degree in education, reading, special education, or a related field.

• Experience working with students who have IEPs or identified learning differences.
