Openwork is hiring an experienced Structural Fitter for a manufacturing operation in Houston, TX 77064 . This hands-on opportunity is ideal for a skilled fitter who can confidently interpret blueprints, detailed engineering drawings, and welding symbols to fabricate, fit, and assemble structural steel components.
We're seeking someone with strong structural fitting and welding experience who takes pride in accurate fit-up, quality workmanship, and workplace safety. Candidates must be highly knowledgeable in interpreting fabrication drawings and demonstrate a clear understanding of welding symbols.
This is a safety-sensitive position reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor.
Position at a Glance Location: Houston, TX 77064
Pay: $20.00–$23.00 per hour
Experienced Welder-Fitters: Up to $28.00 per hour, based on experience
Pay Frequency: Weekly Pay
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM
Shift: 1st Shift
Overtime: As needed
What You'll Be Doing:

• Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural steel and metal components.
• Accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, welding symbols, and job travelers.
• Identify, cut, prepare, deburr, lay out, position, and align materials.
• Clamp, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, and bolt components into position.
• Follow welding procedures, including GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW.
• Verify fit-up, dimensions, alignment, and finished work against specifications.
• Inspect components for defects and prevent warping, shrinking, or distortion.
• Identify and report defective materials or equipment.
• Follow material traceability and quality-control procedures.
• Safely move and position materials using hoists and cranes.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work area.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

• 2–7 years of structural fitting and welding experience.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and detailed engineering drawings.
• Thorough understanding of welding symbols and their application to structural fabrication.
• Ability to independently interpret drawings and translate. specifications into accurate fit-up and assembly.
• Strong knowledge of structural fitting, layout, and tack-welding procedures.
• Experience with welding equipment, jigs, fixtures, and fabrication tools.
• Experience with gas welding and cutting equipment.
• Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead beam cranes, and jib cranes.
• Ability to work effectively with assigned helpers.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Required personal tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong safety awareness and consistent use of required PPE.

Additional Qualifications:

• Certified Welder is a plus.
• Trade school or Vo-Tech background.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
• Industrial noise requiring participation in a hearing conservation program.
• Ability to lift 25–50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and remain active throughout the shift.
• Ability to work overtime when needed.
• Required welding hood and company-issued PPE while welding.
• Compliance with all safety procedures for this safety-sensitive position.
