Structural Engineering - Project EngineerAtlanta GA - ATLANTA, GA 30309OverviewPosition Type Full Time Travel Percentage Up to 25%DescriptionJob Title: Structural Project Engineer Department: Structural Engineering Reports to: Project Manager FLSA Status: Exempt GENERAL SUMMARY The Structural Project Engineer plays a key role in the successful execution of structural engineering projects from initial design through final documentation and delivery. This position is responsible for managing day to day project activities, maintaining quality control, and ensuring that project deliverables meet both technical standards and client expectations.Work will primarily focus on building types such as commercial developments, office buildings, big box retail, hospitality projects, parking structures, educational facilities, municipal buildings, and multifamily residential projects. The Structural Project Engineer brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to coordination and problem solving throughout all phases of a project. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. However, the Structural Project Engineer is expected to provide guidance, direction, and coordination to internal project team members as part of daily project execution. General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Project Execution and DeliveryOversee and actively participate in all phases of structural engineering projects, from conceptual design through preparation of contract documents and final deliveryDevelop and produce structural calculations, drawings, and specifications that align with project requirements and applicable codesEnsure that all deliverables are accurate, complete, and issued on scheduleMaintain a high level of quality control throughout the project lifecycleTechnical Design and EngineeringApply strong technical knowledge in structural engineering to develop efficient and practical design solutionsMake independent engineering design decisions based on experience, sound judgment, and established standardsPerform structural analysis and design for a wide range of building systems and materialsPrepare and review detailed engineering calculations to support design intentProject CoordinationPlan, organize, and monitor project tasks to ensure alignment with overall project goals and timelinesDirect and coordinate workload among project team members to maintain productivity and efficiencyCollaborate with internal disciplines and external partners to ensure seamless integration of structural systems with architectural and other engineering componentsCommunicate regularly with the Project Manager regarding project status, challenges, and resource needsDocumentation and ReviewPrepare, coordinate, write, and edit structural specifications, calculations, and technical reportsReview shop drawings and submittals for conformance with design documents and project requirementsProvide clear and timely feedback on submittals to support construction progressField Observation and AssessmentConduct site visits for structural observation during construction to verify that work is consistent with design intentPerform building condition assessments and document findings with clear recommendationsCoordinate with field personnel and contractors to address questions or issues that arise during constructionTravelTravel may be required up to 25 percent of the time to support project needs, including site visits, client meetings, and coordination effortsREQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIESDemonstrates strong leadership and accountability in managing assigned work and meeting deadlinesConsistently delivers high quality service and technical workCommunicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writingHighly organized with strong attention to detail and follow throughAbility to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project demandsProficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Enercalc, RISA, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft ExcelStrong working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, NDS, AISI, and SJIExperience designing with a wide range of structural materials and systems, including structural steel, steel joists, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, cold formed metal, retaining walls, tilt up concrete, and both shallow and deep foundation systemsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural concentration.Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in structural engineering.Professional engineering licensure is preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.Working at GFWHY YOU'LL WANT TO WORK AT GF Join a team where you can contribute and grow your career without limits.
