Structural Designer & Estimator | Building Materials
Middle Tennessee | Full-time | $65,000 - $100,000 a year, based on experience
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a well-established Middle Tennessee building materials supplier as they expand their estimating and design team. Due to continued growth, this is a chance to step into a team that builders already rely on.
Ownership is approachable, decisions get made quickly, and good work gets recognized. This organization is known for their culture that is influenced by being privately owned and having a great leadership team. They are large enough to provide exceptional stability while also providing the opportunity for your ideas to influence the strategic direction of the organization.
The Role
You will turn builders' plans into accurate material lists and structural layouts that crews can build from and inspectors can approve. Some projects are quick takeoffs. Others take real thought, and that is where you come in: spotting conflicts early, asking the right questions, and finding a solution that works on the job site.
You will work directly with builders, architects, salespeople, and vendors, and you will be the person crews call when a question comes up in the field.
What You'll Do
• Review residential and light commercial plans and builder specifications
• Build material takeoffs, estimates, and detailed structural layouts
• Resolve plan conflicts and open questions before materials go out
• Work with sales, architects, builders, and vendors to develop design plans
• Support crews with answers and solutions from the field
• Coordinate with the estimating team so layouts and estimates stay consistent
Who Will Do Well
Someone who can read a set of plans and see how the building goes together, is comfortable with construction math, and learns software quickly. You pay attention to detail, communicate clearly, and speak up early when something does not look right.
Experience in drafting, CAD, estimating, framing, residential construction, architecture, or plan coordination is a plus, and engineered wood product experience is a bonus. A college degree is not required.
Compensation & Benefits
• $65,000 - $100,000 a year, based on experience and growing with your contribution
• Bonus opportunities
• Health insurance
• 401(k) with company match
• Paid time off and life insurance
• Flexible schedule, with hybrid options for the right person
