Responsibilities
- Learn Walgreens’ operations and ways of working to lead “one-box” (full store operations across front‑end and pharmacy).
- Complete accelerated development track to Store Manager within the learning plan timeframe.
- Under the direction of the Store Manager, oversee the operations (front‑end and pharmacy) of a Walgreens store.
- Support store operations by shadowing or assisting the Store Manager throughout the learning journey.
Training & Personal Development
- Complete rigorous, accelerated program including all certifications needed for the Store Manager role.
- Attend and complete classroom learning, online training and on‑the‑job training, fulfilling assigned rotations and learning objectives in other stores as assigned.
- Follow individual development plans offered by District Manager and participate in one‑on‑one conversations with Store Manager and District Manager to grow professionally and demonstrate readiness.
- Monitor own performance, set high personal standards, and learn best practices in retail, pharmacy and management.
- Implement compliance standard operating procedures across front‑end and pharmacy and gain knowledge of all computer and technology systems.
- Obtain pharmacy technician registration/licensure as required by state law and pursue PTCB certification if required.
Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients, greet them, and offer assistance with products and services.
- Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices, monitor service levels, coach teams, and develop improvement plans.
- Support Store Manager in analyzing customer feedback, tracking trends, and improving service metrics.
Operations
- Shadow and gain experience supervising store operations and team members, including opening/closing, shift changes, and task delegation.
- Supervise merchandising tasks, including displays, promotions, pricing and inventory, and maintain compliance with store policies.
- Protect store assets by administering and monitoring loss‑prevention programs and electronic surveillance.
- Analyze inventory trends, supervise receiving, sticking, pricing, returning and transferring merchandise.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for all store items.
- Provide safety and well‑being for team members and utilize the Security Operations Center as required.
- Comply with all company policies, maintain respectful relationships, and complete special assignments as needed.
Business Performance Management
- Analyze financial and performance data for store and pharmacy, and develop action plans to improve results.
- Identify sales opportunities to grow business.
- Review asset‑protection data and reduce loss.
- Prepare daily and weekly operational metrics and discuss improvements with Store Manager and District Manager.
- Analyze pharmacy performance indicators and collaborate with pharmacy leadership.
Business Planning
- Work with Store Manager to understand inventory metrics and processes.
- Grow front‑end and pharmacy business through initiatives directed by the Support Center, community outreach, and retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
- Learn all aspects of people management, training, coaching, and performance management at Walgreens.
- Use Walgreens’ HR and people‑management systems to supervise team members.
- Shadow action planning conversations and become familiar with performance assessment criteria and discipline processes.
- Review and understand company policy and employment laws related to recruitment, training and retention.
- Support Store Manager in leveraging team strengths, solving problems and adapting to change.
Communications
- Shadow Store Manager during all critical communication sessions.
- Assist in planning and attending community events.
- Facilitate discussions with team about operational and engagement metrics.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years retail management experience or High School Diploma/GED and 5 years retail management experience.
- Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English (Except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including extended days, evenings and weekend hours.
- Willingness to accept assignment into a Store Manager position if offered.
- Willingness to transfer to other Walgreens retail assets in the same hiring area.
Preferred Qualifications
- PTCB certification.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Managerial experience at a Retail Store or Hospitality Manager/Assistant Manager with people leadership, business management and customer‑facing experience.
