Store Manager Trainee

Job Overview

• Role: Store Manager (or Retail Shop Manager)

• Reports to: District Manager, Area Manager, or Corporate Headquarters

• Job Summary: Directs all store activities, manages the team, controls inventory, and meets financial and sales goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Staff Leadership & Management

• Recruit, hire, train, and onboard new sales associates and supervisors.

• Build employee work schedules and manage payroll goals.

• Set sales targets, provide ongoing coaching, and conduct performance reviews.

• Foster a positive team environment and handle employee relations or disciplinary action

2. Sales & Business Performance

• Drive sales targets and track key performance indicators (KPIs) like conversion rates and average transaction value.

• Plan and execute local marketing, promotional events, and visual merchandising standards.

• Analyze sales trends and report business metrics to upper management.

3. Operations & Inventory

• Monitor stock levels, place inventory orders with vendors, and conduct routine stock counts.

• Implement loss-prevention strategies to reduce theft, waste, and stock shrinkage.

• Ensure the store stays clean, organized, safe, and fully compliant with local health and safety laws.

4. Customer Service

• Lead by example to deliver an exceptional in-store customer experience.

• Resolve complex customer complaints or issues professionally and quickly.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in a retail environment, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or management role.

• Education: High school diploma required; a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, or a related field is preferred.

• Skills:
  • Strong leadership, motivation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good understanding of basic retail math, budgeting, and profit-and-loss (P&L) tracking.
  • Proficiency with Point-of-Sale (POS) software and inventory management tools.

• Physical & Schedule Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, lift moderate weights (up to 50 lbs), and work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
