Job Description
The Store Manager at The Golf Mart is responsible for building and maintaining a store culture that is consistent with Worldwide Golf’s values, including the “Sure No Problem” philosophy. The Store Manager executes the day‑to‑day plans and strategies to run the store, drive sales & profitably, and exceed financial goals. The Store Manager also has shared ownership for creating a positive golf store experience from a management, customer and employee perspective to the Worldwide Golf standard.
Responsibilities
- Become a Golf Mart brand ambassador in the local community, making key external relationships and partnerships
- Control shrink and expenses while ensuring the sales floor is adequately stocked & signed, and merchandise is displayed to brand presentation
- Ensure execution of all visual merchandising programs, modules, and direction as dictated by Store Operations Department by assisting and implementing floor moves, merchandising and display maintenance
- Actively recruit for all team positions within the store and create strategies to improve employee engagement and retention
- Help employees grow their career and skill set by identifying additional opportunities for growth
- Appropriately respond to any negative customer experience by de‑escalating the situation and making things right for the customer. Use customer feedback to recognize/coach employees
- Evaluate employee performance and identify opportunities and solutions for improvement
- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures through regular store management, meetings, store walk‑throughs and audits, etc.
- Partner with Regional Manager and Human Resources on all issues involving “on‑notice” situations
- Create and operate employee schedules
- Monitor company communication tools daily and adjust schedule to execute workload as needed
- Educate employees on company expectations and monitor employee adherence. In partnership with the Regional Manager, address violations to policy in a fair, timely, and consistent manner
- Maintain strong knowledge of all golf products and ensure that employees can educate customers on all golf products and offerings
- Recognize and suggest ways to improve processes
Requirements
- Effectively manage, direct and lead store staff
- Demonstrate knowledge of processing information and merchandise via computer and POS register system
- Possess a working knowledge of word‑processing, spreadsheet, inventory, Internet and order processing systems
- Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret business reports, correspondence and procedures effectively and present that information with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and percentages
- Freely access all areas of the store including sales floor, stock area and register area by standing, walking, stooping, crawling, climbing, crouching, kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 35 pounds at any given time
- Operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store; ability to travel occasionally (i.e., corporate or regional company meetings)
- Work varied hours/days as business dictates
Desired Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working in retail management or in the golf industry
- General golf knowledge/background
- High school diploma or GED (college degree an advantage, but not required)
Compensation
Pay range: $65,000 – $75,000 per year, including quarterly bonuses based on store sales. Individual starting pay within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
