Position Overview
The Assistant Store Manager will collaborate closely with the Store Manager to support and execute all company initiatives, foster teamwork, and maximize store profitability.
Responsibilities
- Support and partner with the Store Manager to complete daily operations in a timely manner.
- Employ an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset to utilize available tools and develop creative approaches that drive results.
- Act as a brand ambassador in the local market, participating in charity events, mall initiatives, and local associations to build brand loyalty.
- Understand and use all retail systems and reporting tools.
- Maintain inventory control and loss prevention, assisting with quarterly inventory.
- Oversee daily operational duties, including opening, closing, returns, and customer complaints.
- Complete operational tasks according to Johnny Was standards, including sales and service expectations, payroll, and human resources.
- Implement and maintain company standards and practices, ensuring effective communication to the entire team.
- Maintain interior and exterior upkeep of the store with corporate support.
- Assist the Store Manager in sourcing qualified candidates.
- Help train new associates to set them up for success.
- Execute visual guidelines within 72 hours of receipt.
- Communicate all internal business needs and employee issues to the Store Manager in a timely manner.
- Foster an environment of teamwork, collaboration, enthusiasm, and positivity.
- Demonstrate confidence when leading the team and managing the store.
- Take initiative and assume ownership for results of self and the team.
- Evaluate performance of all team members and provide timely feedback for coaching and development.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to coach and motivate the sales team on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to meet goals.
- Lead the sales team by example, driving sales efforts and customer service on the sales floor to increase profitability.
- Remain committed to delivering results, staying aware of personal and store metrics, and achieving goals.
- Ensure the team receives all new product knowledge training to strengthen selling skills.
- Model and enforce dress code compliance.
- Consistently achieve personal selling goals, leading by example.
- Prioritize customer and employee experience over workload or tasking.
- Create a warm and inviting environment where clients feel welcomed, engaged, and valued.
- Offer personalized service, including providing a beverage and authentic connection.
- Build repeat business through consistent use of client capture tools, outreach, and follow‑up.
- Address customer issues with patience, offering solution‑oriented support for the highest good of the client.
- Provide an individualized and positive experience for all customers during transactions and returns.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of retail experience, preferably in women’s contemporary fashion.
- Computer skills, including operation of iPad‑based point‑of‑sale systems, email, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
- Proven ability to deliver sales results.
- Availability to work retail hours, including days, nights, weekends, and special events.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Friendly, outgoing, and team‑oriented personality with strong customer service skills.
- Goal‑oriented, with ownership and accountability for performance.
- Strong leadership skills and effective collaboration with others.
- Excellent organizational, follow‑up, and communication skills.
