Stewardship Veterinarian

The CDFA’s Antimicrobial Use & Stewardship (AUS) program is seeking career-minded individuals to join its statewide program intended to promote judicious use of antimicrobial drugs in livestock and other actions that will slow the development of resistant bacteria associated with animal agriculture. cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/aus

About the Position:

• Salary range: $7,109 – $12,364

As the Veterinarian (General) you will:

• Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of outreach, education, and communication efforts, including in-person and/or virtual talks and social media messaging
• Plan, organize, and coordinate Stewardship-related events for California livestock producers and provide technical assistance to local veterinarians
• Work with the California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) Laboratory, industry stakeholders, researchers, and other federal and State agencies to develop stewardship resource materials
• Research scientific literature related to antimicrobial use, resistance, and stewardship and identify knowledge gaps and/or opportunities for further programmatic study
• Review, apply, and enforce laws, regulations, and policies of the Department and of various local, State, and Federal government agencies in all aspects of assigned duties

Desirable Qualifications:

• Valid California Veterinary Medical Board (VMB) License
• Keen interest in livestock medicine, public health, and disease prevention
• Critical thinker who is detail oriented & desires to engage with researchers, producers, and stakeholders
• Excellent written and scientific communication ability with strong computer skills
• Please note, if applicant does not have a valid California veterinary license, it must be secured within 12 months of appointment date
