UVA Health University Medical Center is seeking Certified Sterile Processing Technicians to support high acuity surgical services across our perioperative environment. The Role

At UVA Health, Sterile Processing Technicians are trusted experts in infection prevention and surgical readiness, working in close partnership with the Operating Room, Perioperative Services, and clinical teams to ensure the highest standards of surgery preparation. Your work directly supports safe surgeries and infection prevention, which contributes directly to successful patient outcomes.

This role is ideal for professionals who take pride in accuracy, consistency, and being an essential part of complex surgical care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and equipment
  • Prepare and assemble surgical trays following established tray listings
  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment and document all parameters to ensure compliance and safety
  • Maintain accurate tracking of instruments and trays using barcode systems
  • Support Operating Room readiness by pulling cases, restocking supplies, and expediting instrumentation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, regulated, and compliant work environment

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Experience: 1 year or relevant experience preferred. Experience as CNA, EMT, PCT or CMA highly preferred.

Licensure: No certification required at hire; obtaining certain certifications within 6 months of hire may be required. See position requisition for details.

Physical Demands

Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 25–50 lbs. Working in environments with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Compensation — The pay range for this role is $16.31 - $25.28 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
