Sterile Processing Technician

Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing, and distributing patient care instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates, and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled. Cleans soiled instruments and equipment utilizing the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE). Inspects and tests instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning. Utilizes mechanical and digital validation tools to ensure that proper sterilization occurs. Strives for zero defects. Ensures proper processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies by prioritizing the workload to correspond with medical/surgical floor needs, surgical case loads, and physician requirements. Accurately differentiates between instruments functionality and specialties. Monitors performance of sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and other equipment, and fills out repair requisitions as necessary. Demonstrates proficiency in assembling high-complexity trays such as implant trays. Handles customer area requests in an efficient, timely, and professional manner. Participates in safety initiatives and risk-mitigating measures as appropriate. Completes all position and unit safety-related competencies and requirements in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned.
