Step Team (Coed): Visual Performing Arts program
The Step Team focuses on creating and performing unique dance routines. Stepping is a percussive dance style in which participants use their entire bodies as instruments to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a combination of footwork, spoken word, and hand claps. Elementary and middle school students can try out at the beginning of the year, after which team members are selected. The team practices and performs throughout the year.
**Job Summary:**
This position coaches and directs student-athletes/performers, helping them achieve a high level of skill and a strong understanding of discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. The role includes conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing them in strategies and techniques.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
The essential duties of this position include some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned as necessary:

• Attend practices and step performance events regularly and punctually.
• Plan and set up activities, practices, and step choreography.
• Develop appropriate training techniques for practice schedules.
• Assess students' skills, monitor their performance during competitions and practices, and inform the head coach of their progress.
• Assist the head coach in instructing students on the competition's rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques.
• Maintain necessary records and complete required paperwork on time.
• Interact thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials, resolving conflicts professionally.
• When interacting with students, parents, community members, staff, and the media, act as a professional representative of the school and the district.
• Chaperone or supervise athletes as needed.

**Supervisory Responsibilities:**

• All school employees are responsible for managing students and maintaining a safe environment.
• Participate in special activities, including parent meetings and banquets.
• Assign administrative duties to the head coach, follow any additional instructions, and perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor, principal, or appropriate administrator.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
