State Director

Location: Hybrid – New Jersey-based, with regular travel to Kansas

Coverage: Kansas operations, including 2 established clinics and 2 de novo clinic launches

We are a rapidly growing, mission-driven ABA provider seeking a State Director to lead and scale our Kansas market. This is a highly operational leadership role for someone who can build infrastructure, develop strong local teams, and drive exceptional clinical and business outcomes while navigating the delightful chaos that comes with a high-growth startup.

The State Director will oversee two existing ABA clinics and lead the successful launch of two additional de novo locations. This leader will be responsible for market performance, operational execution, talent development, clinic growth, and ensuring families receive high-quality, accessible care.

What You’ll Do

• Own the overall performance and growth strategy for the Kansas market.
• Provide operational leadership across two established clinics and two de novo clinic openings.
• Lead clinic launch activities, including site readiness, staffing plans, operational workflows, community outreach, and ramp-up planning.
• Partner with clinical leadership to ensure high-quality, ethical, and family-centered ABA services.
• Drive census growth, referral development, client access, retention, and utilization across the market.
• Build, coach, and retain a high-performing leadership team, including Clinical Directors and operational leaders.
• Establish clear performance expectations, accountability measures, and development plans for direct reports.
• Monitor market KPIs, including census, staffing, utilization, revenue, expenses, margin, client outcomes, and employee retention.
• Identify operational gaps and implement scalable processes that support sustainable growth.
• Partner closely with Talent Acquisition on hiring strategy and workforce planning for existing and new clinics.
• Work collaboratively with central support functions, including clinical, finance, HR, recruiting, billing, marketing, and compliance.
• Ensure each location operates in accordance with company standards, applicable regulations, payer requirements, and ethical clinical practices.
• Build relationships with local referral sources, schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to strengthen market presence.
• Travel regularly to Kansas clinics and future launch sites.

What We’re Looking For

• Significant multi-site operations leadership experience within ABA, behavioral health, healthcare, or another service-based, high-growth environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading clinic operations, regional markets, or multiple locations with responsibility for business performance.
• Experience opening, scaling, or stabilizing de novo locations strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of the operational realities of ABA services, including staffing, utilization, census, client access, and clinical quality.
• A track record of building strong teams, developing leaders, and creating accountability without making everyone hate their calendar invitations.
• Comfortable operating in a startup environment where priorities move quickly and processes are still being built.
• Strong financial and business acumen, with experience managing budgets, P&L performance, and operational KPIs.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Kansas.
