The State Chief Privacy Officer and General Counsel serves as the principal legal advisor and chief privacy executive for Nevada's Governor's Technology Office, reporting directly to the State Chief Information Officer. This executive position provides legal counsel, privacy leadership, strategic policy guidance, and enterprise risk management for statewide technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital government, and data governance initiatives. The incumbent establishes and oversees Nevada's enterprise privacy program, ensures compliance with applicable laws, and advises on technology-related legal and policy matters while serving as a trusted advisor to the Governor's Office and executive branch leadership.
Key qualifications
- Seven or more years of applicable experience with a minimum of two years of managerial experience and a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in good standing with the State Bar of Nevada or eligible for admission under Nevada Supreme Court Rules
- Advanced legal education beyond the Juris Doctor, such as an LL.M. in privacy, cybersecurity, or technology law
- Experience serving as legal counsel within government agencies or organizations engaged in technology modernization
- Knowledge of state statutes surrounding IT, security, and privacy
- Ability to draft and research legislation pertaining to technology and cybersecurity matters
