The State & Local Tax Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of all client assignments. The Tax Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of client deliverables, managing multiple projects simultaneously, developing and training associates, and making associations to develop new business for the firm. We're looking for professionals who think like owners and want to be part of shaping a high-growth firm.Position Details:Title: State & Local Tax ManagerClassification: Full-time; ExemptDepartment: TaxLocation: Dallas, Plano or HoustonOffice Expectations/Hours: Fully in-office position; general work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day between 8am to 5pm with overtime, as needed.What You Will DoProvide state & local income/franchise tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base operating in numerous states.

Typical consulting projects include managing state voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), state tax due diligence and state income/franchise tax audits.Advise clients on a variety of issues, including state income/franchise tax sourcing, state income/franchise tax nexus and accounting for state income taxesReview and/or prepare state income tax returnsDevelop, maintain, and manage client relationships and expectations, monitor engagement economics, and coordinate staffing and workflow on multiple engagements, simultaneouslyManage deadlines and engagement budgets; keep Partners updated on engagement statusContinuously develop technical expertise; identify and research technical issues to assure compliance with state and local tax laws and regulationsProvide exceptional client service by maintaining an understanding client operations and business objectives; apply this knowledge to serve clients in a consultative way and to identify additional potential business opportunitiesSupervise and teach associates and interns, including delegation of assignments, detailed review of work, and evaluating performanceUse coaching and managerial skills to enhance the development and growth of othersActively participate in business proposals, networking and recruiting opportunitiesWhat You Need to Get HereBachelor's degree in Accounting; Master's degree preferredActive CPA License5-7 years of state & local income/franchise tax compliance and consulting experienceCorporate & partnership state & local income/franchise tax experienceAdvanced technical knowledge of state income/franchise tax law, regulations and other guidance in Texas and other key statesStrong communication skills; ability to interact with a broad range of individualsStrong professional presence and leadership skills; ability to mentor and develop staffExperience building and maintaining excellent client relationships, identifying value added services, and expanding books of businessWhy Whitley PennOur total rewards are incredibly competitive.
