Staff Software Engineer (Backend)Come join the QuickBooks Capital & Lending platform team as a Staff Software Engineer (Backend). You will join an innovative and passionate team of engineers using cutting edge technologies like Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, AWS, Elastic Search, Kafka, to build enterprise scale software for our QuickBooks customers. We are looking for an engineer with a background in back-end web technologies (Java/Kotlin, Spring, REST services, etc.)ResponsibilitiesArchitecting and developing online web applications, prototypes, or proofs of concepts (POCs)Leading the gathering of functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and project & test planningActing as the technical subject matter expert: Mentoring fellow engineers, demonstrating technical expertise, and leading a small team solving challenging programming and design problemsRoughly 40-60% hands-on coding.
Rest focused on System design, operational excellence and coaching/mentoring junior engineers.Generate technical documentation and PowerPoint presentations to communicate architectural and design options, and educate development teams and business usersResolve defects/bugs during QA testing, pre-production, production, and post-release patchesWork cross-functionally with various Intuit teams including product management, QA/QE, various product lines, and/or business units to drive forward resultsDemonstrate a passion for developing well architected, elegant, web and/or mobile appsExperience with Agile Development, SCRUM, or Extreme Programming methodologiesQualifications8+ years experience designing and developing online SaaS applications (Backend).Strong leadership experience: Leading meetings, presenting, technical go to person, and cross-functional leaderBS/MS in computer science or equivalent work experienceExpertise with the following: Java/J2EE, SQL, AWS and other backend development technologies. Proficient with AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude or Codex)Expertise with the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)5+ years experience with web services (consuming or creating) with REST or SOAPExcellent communication skills: Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiencesExpertise in the Software design/architecture processExpertise with unit testing & Test Driven Development (TDD)Business Acumen - strategic thinking & strategy developmentBuilding strong teams - set and evangelize vision, facilitative leadership, attract and retain key talentExperience in handling On-call responsibilities & production incidents for large scale, high throughput SaaS applications.
