Staff Psychiatrist, CF (SAFETY) located at Valley State Prison (VSP), Chowchilla, CA.

Job Description and Duties

Under general direction of the Senior Psychiatrist (Sup), the psychiatrist is a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team providing general population outpatient services to inmates. The team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers assigned to a service area. The psychiatrist performs psychiatric evaluations, participates in treatment planning and case reviews, prescribes medications, provides crisis intervention and psychotherapy, and offers consultations and training in treatment approaches to both clinical and custody staff.

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychiatric evaluations for inmates.
• Participate in the development of treatment plans and case reviews.
• Prescribe and manage medication regimens.
• Provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy services.
• Consult and train clinical and custody staff on treatment approaches.

Salary, Benefits, and Bonuses

• Salary adjusted in accordance with PLP 2025: base salary reduced by 4.62%, with 8 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months.
• Classification: Section 5, Hiring‑Above‑Minimum (HAM) authorization with authorized HAM rates of P $30,259 and Q $31,136.
• Recruitment and retention bonus may be available for clinicians newly hired with CCHCS.
• Effective July 1, 2023, direct in‑person patient care staff receive a pay differential equivalent to 15% of their monthly base pay.
• Eligible staff may receive a $10,000 one‑time recruitment and retention stipend and/or a monthly differential during the first year, totaling $5,000.
• Cold employees may qualify for a $5,000 referral bonus after 90 days of employment, contingent upon completion of a questionnaire.
