Essential Job Duties

Direct patient care:

  • Provide quality, evidence‑based direct patient care as a member of the CH Primary Care team to eligible persons. Includes history‑taking, examination, treatment, follow‑up and referral, as appropriate.
  • Interpret x‑ray, ECG and other laboratory tests.
  • Provide primary‑level mental health care including evaluation and treatment of anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorder and disordered eating/eating disorders.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures including suturing, incision and drainage, minor wound and burn care.

Oversight and supervision:

  • Assist in providing oversight for CH Therapeutics Clinics.
  • Supervise and support the professional practice of advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinical pharmacist practitioners).

Unit engagement & support:

  • Participate in quality and performance improvement projects and peer review.
  • Maintain active engagement in continuing education for licensure maintenance and high‑quality care provision.
  • Participate in campus outreach activities, when appropriate.
  • Participate in CH committees and departmental meetings, as assigned.
  • Assist in resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • MD (doctor of allopathic medicine) or DO (doctor of osteopathic medicine) degree from an accredited school of medicine.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competencies in primary care medicine including physical assessment, suturing/minor surgical procedures, and mental health screening.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service; ability to collaborate with other clinicians, allied health professionals, support staff and university administration.
  • Ability to accept assignments and work independently under general direction.
  • Knowledge and experience with Electronic Medical Records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with college health and/or urgent care.
  • Experience with multicultural traditions and/or knowledge of travel‑related infectious diseases.
  • Fluency in languages other than English.
  • Interest and training in sports medicine and/or a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine (CAQSM).

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school and successful completion of a primary care residency (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine‑Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine).
  • Board certified in a primary care specialty and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • License to practice medicine in North Carolina, or eligibility for licensure.
  • Active DEA license, or eligibility for licensure.
