Staff Physician (Part‑Time) — Heart and Vascular Institute, McGovern Medical School

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston invites applications for a part‑time Staff Physician position within the Heart and Vascular Institute, Division of Cardiology. The selected candidate will support the department’s mission to educate health science professionals, research and translate advances, and model best clinical practices through patient care, research, teaching, and administrative activities.

Position Key Accountabilities

• Assist in developing an academic and clinical Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiopulmonary Support, and Transplantation Program.
• See patients in the clinic and in community‑based hospitals and clinics throughout Houston.
• Participate in research projects and educational activities.
• Engage in the ACTAT Center for Advanced Heart Failure practice at Memorial Hermann and UT Physician locations, including coverage on UTHealth Houston Physicians Cardiology group call team.
• Provide feedback on office operations, including hiring, logistics, and new physician recruitment.
• Teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Support the research mission, including assisting with data collection, specimen handling, and education of research subjects.
• Identify patient and family needs, recommend and develop new programs, and ensure appropriate equipment and resources.
• Collaborate with hospital administration and physicians on opportunities and direction of department services.
• Maintain a departmental Quality Improvement Plan aligned with the organizational Quality Management Plan.
• Review financial reports and identify cost‑saving measures.
• Participate in or chair committees, workgroups, and meetings.
• Ensure interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active and complaints are handled satisfactorily.
• Maintain professional growth through seminars, workshops, literature, and professional affiliations.

Qualifications

• Texas medical license or eligibility for a Texas Faculty Temporary License.
• MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
• Board certification or eligibility in cardiovascular disease.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with leadership potential.
• Commitment to excellence, discovery, and service, and interest in the goals of McGovern Medical School.
