The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, therapeutic, and rational preparation and dispensing of medications.
The Staff Pharmacist ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulatory and accrediting standards, health system policies, and sound pharmaceutical ethics. The pharmacist will independently make clinical decisions or collaborate with other pharmacists as appropriate.
Depending on the assigned area, the pharmacist may provide direct patient services, including medication and disease-state education, counseling, minor laboratory procedures, interpretation of laboratory results, immunization administration, and services under approved health-system protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Process physician medication orders accurately and in a timely manner for inpatient, outpatient, and/or retail settings.
• Accurately compound sterile and non-sterile medications using accepted pharmacy principles.
• Complete and document pharmacy operations accurately and efficiently.
• Utilize required pharmacy and healthcare IT systems proficiently.
• Assess medication orders for appropriateness and make clinical interventions when necessary.
• Maintain competency in clinical activities relevant to the assigned pharmacy area.
• Document quality-assurance activities, including:
  • Adverse drug reactions
  • Medication evaluations
  • Medication errors
  • Other assigned quality initiatives
• Lead and direct pharmacy technicians, support personnel, students, and interns.
• Ensure daily pharmacy operations are completed accurately, efficiently, and appropriately.
• Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, accreditation requirements, and health-system policies.
• Maintain patient and financial confidentiality.
• Safely handle controlled and non-controlled medications in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Provide patient education, counseling, immunizations, and other clinical services when required by the assigned area.
• Perform other pharmacy-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program .
• Current license to practice Pharmacy in the State of Ohio.
• PharmD or other qualifying pharmacy degree from an accredited program.
• Ability to work variable shifts.
• Ability to maintain competency in assigned pharmacy functions.
• Strong clinical judgment and attention to medication safety.
• Ability to work effectively with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.

REQUIRED / AREA-DEPENDENT CERTIFICATION: Immunization Certification may be required depending on the assigned pharmacy area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 1-2 years of experience in the assigned pharmacy practice area.
• Hospital, health-system, outpatient, or retail pharmacy experience depending on assignment.
• Experience with medication therapy management, patient counseling, clinical interventions, and pharmacy information systems.

The ideal candidate is a licensed Ohio pharmacist with an accredited pharmacy education and relevant experience who can independently manage medication orders, medication preparation and dispensing, clinical interventions, quality assurance, and pharmacy operations while collaborating effectively with the broader healthcare team.
