Job Title: Staff Nurse (RN) – Critical Care Oncology New Graduate Nurse Residency Program – The James

The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to successfully transition from student to professional through a full‑time, structured 14–20 week paid orientation to the field of oncology nursing.

Program overview:

• The program incorporates Patricia Benner’s theoretical model of novice to expert.
• Residents receive hands‑on clinical experience, in‑depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development.
• Each resident is supported by a Nurse Residency Program Educator who coordinates individualized experiences and evaluates progress.

Responsibilities:

• Provide patient care and supportive services within the critical care oncology environment.
• Assess, prescribe, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care of patients.
• Manage and direct nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team.
• Prioritize patient care needs and provide leadership to and development of the patient care team.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to achieve positive patient care outcomes and improve service levels.

Qualifications:

• Graduate from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program.
• Current licensure or an interim permit in the practice of registered nursing from the State of Ohio Board of Nursing.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred.

Specialty units for the 2027 program include: Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Neuro ICU.

Scheduled hours: 40 per week.

Shift: Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
