Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and emotional needs of inmates, including adolescents (13‑17 years), adults (18‑64 years), and their families, within the framework established by the correctional system.
• Performs assessments of resident‑patients in a variety of settings such as initial intake, sick call, housing emergency situations, chronic care clinics, and the infirmary.
• Works collaboratively with a variety of health‑care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
• Identifies inmate‑centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for identified problems.
• Plans nursing care by identifying resident‑patient needs based on assessments, making timely referrals, and initiating appropriate care in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
• As a team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to other health‑care team members based on their skill, knowledge, and experience and guides the provision of care by others.

Salary

Grade: 01D
Minimum Salary: $37,230
Mid Range Salary: $46,540
Maximum Salary: $54,050

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• License to practice in the State of New Jersey
• CPR certification required
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or alternate means of transportation between sites

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent preferred
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment

As a first responder, the nurse must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and physically lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate, up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions

Approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adherence to all DOC requirements.
