You will report to the Manager of Propulsion Drive Controls and Integration out of our Carson, CA location.ResponsibilitiesWork with controls engineers and embedded software engineers to test and verify the functionality of motor controls and inverter software features across vehicle dynamics, infotainment, connectivity, thermal, and other domainsLead vehicle testing and integration activitiesMaintain the health of the vehicle fleet and root-cause software, mechanical, and electrical issuesDevelop and test motor control algorithms and calibrations for high-power electric drive systems consisting of high-voltage power converters and electric motors, including surface-mounted permanent magnet machines, interior permanent magnet machines, induction machines, and other machine technologiesPerform validation testing at the system level and subcomponent level according to specifications and validation documentationsPerform software regression and release testing for inverter control algorithms on dyno and vehicle platformsCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, vehicle test, diagnostics, and service teamsCollaborate with other test teams to help ensure full test coverage across: high-voltage dynamometer tests hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests sub-component tests system-level (vehicle) testsProvide technical and constructive feedback to feature owners based on vehicle testing and data analysisWork as part of a fast-paced, diverse team of professionals supporting component development, subsystem integration, and vehicle integrationParticipate in vehicle test trip support for cold- and hot-weather testingStay abreast of new technologies, competitive methods, and productsSubmit patents and trade secrets to advance Rivian's intellectual property portfolio in the field of propulsion drive controlsQualificationsM.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or a related field5+ years of EV industry experience or equivalentHands-on experience working in vehicle test environments and high-voltage, high-power laboratory settingsKnowledge of the theory and principles of AC electric machine drives and three-phase switching power converter topologiesExtensive experience with data logging methodologies and hardware implementationsExtensive experience with software tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, or similarGood understanding of vehicle dynamicsFluency in model-based design using MATLAB/Simulink, including modeling and simulation of electric drivesExperience developing digital control algorithms for three-phase switching power converters and AC electric machinesAbility to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%, based on business demandsFluency in C and C++ programming languagesExcellent interpersonal skills in a fast-paced team environmentStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work with minimal supervision and a high degree of autonomyPay DisclosureThe salary range for this role is USD 171,100-213,900 for Southern California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
