As a Staff Engineer in our R&D function within the Spine division, you'll perform complex implant and instrument design work, lead significant projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring innovative spinal products from concept through commercialization.What You'll Do:Interface with surgeons and sales representatives to gather input and translate clinical needs into innovative product designsIndependently design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components, subsystems, and complex assemblies for medical devicesLead large projects and actively participate on multi-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management)Apply advanced knowledge of surgical procedures and design inputs to develop solutions that meet customer and clinical requirementsParticipate in and lead design reviews, risk management activities, and Voice of Customer sessionsCreate and refine engineering documentation, including Design History Files, drawings, models, and GD&TSupport design controls, risk management, and other R&D procedures per the Quality Management SystemConduct advanced prototyping, testing, and verification activities; develop test fixtures as neededAnalyze and resolve complex product design issues using independent judgmentPrepare technical information for invention disclosures and patent applicationsMentor others on engineering best practices, CAD tools, and regulated industry standardsContribute to process improvements, DFM principles, and product development from concept through market launchWhat You Bring:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline (Master's preferred)4+ years of medical device product development experienceStrong technical expertise in mechanical design, mechanical assemblies, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)High proficiency with parametric CAD software (Creo or SolidWorks preferred) and engineering drawings with GD&TExperience applying materials science and manufacturing processes to product designDemonstrated proficiency with design controls and working in a regulated industry (FDA, ISO 13485)Solid project management skills with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and cross-functional deliverablesExcellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to present technical information clearlySelf-motivated with the ability to work independently while providing guidance to othersWhy VB Spine? The typical pay range for this position is $128,000.00 - $136,000.00 annually, with potential for bonuses and incentives plus benefits.
