Staff Electrical Engineer - RPU Unit Lead

We’re hiring: Staff Electrical Engineer – RPU Unit Lead | Austin, TX

I’m looking to connect with experienced Electrical Engineers and Hardware Technical Leads with backgrounds in software-defined radios, digital electronics, and space hardware for a technical leadership opportunity in Austin.

This is a hands-on Unit Lead / Responsible Engineer role focused on advanced Reconfigurable Processing Units (RPUs) — complex VPX-based electronics incorporating SDRs, single-board computers, power modules, RF front ends, modems, and software .

You’ll take technical ownership of the complete product, leading it from architecture and design through integration, qualification, production, and flight readiness .

What you’ll be responsible for:

• Leading end-to-end development of complex RPU / VPX-based electronics systems

• Owning architecture, design, prototyping, integration, test and flight readiness

• Coordinating teams across RF, digital, power, mechanical, thermal, software and systems engineering

• Developing payload control schemes, internal data interfaces and command & telemetry architecture

• Supporting firmware/software integration and embedded hardware/software interactions

• Leading environmental qualification including TVAC, vibration, shock and EMC

• Owning requirements, ICDs, test plans, verification matrices and design reviews

• Driving root cause analysis, anomaly resolution and technical risk mitigation

• Transitioning flight hardware into scalable production

• Acting as a key technical interface with customers, program leadership and spacecraft teams

What we’re looking for:

• 8+ years of electronics hardware development experience

• BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field

• Hands-on experience with technologies such as software-defined radios (SDRs)

• Experience leading or mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams

• Strong systems engineering and requirements flowdown knowledge

• Experience with verification/validation and configuration management

• Strong technical, project leadership and communication skills

Experience with VPX hardware, payload control systems, digital interfaces, command & data handling, DSP, beamforming, embedded firmware, flight qualification, or radiation-tolerant electronics would be particularly valuable.

Previous experience as a Responsible Engineer, Technical Lead, IPT Lead, or Chief Engineer on flight hardware would also be highly relevant.
