Staff AttorneyFor over 50 years, we have been serving low-to-moderate-income individuals and families in New York City & are dedicated to offering top-notch, accessible legal services within local neighborhoods. We primarily assist clients who reside in neighborhoods experiencing rapid gentrification, where many residents and small business owners are dealing with displacement and harassment issues. Due to growth and demand, we are looking to add a Staff Attorney to our expanding team.In return, we offer:Competitive compensation contingent on experienceBenefits (medical, dental, vision)401k contribution27 days of vacationFlexible hybrid scheduleWho you are:Admission to the bar of the state of New YorkJuris doctor degree from an American Bar Association-accredited law schoolKnowledge of motion practice, discovery, depositions, communication with clients, negotiations with opposing counsel and advocacy with outside agencies on behalf of clientsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsWhat you will be doing?Working with clients in the nonprofit sector, low-income tenant groups - affordable housing, prevent evictions, tenant harassment/discrimination, ensure working families, individuals, older adults, and others live in stable environmentsAn understanding of the city's housing market and/or experience in housing law practiceDemonstrated ability to interact effectively with client/tenants of different races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environmentAbility to work independently with strong motivation, to manage a high caseload, to meet deadlines, and to be flexibleCollaborate as needed with program managers and development team to write narrative reports for grant and contractsAttend meetings, and perform administrative tasks related to the work, such as timekeeping and case notesFor this position you must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
