Staff AccountantThe salary range for this role is wide and the final compensation will be determined based on candidate's experience, skills, and scope of responsibility. We're open to candidates across a range of experience levels and will calibrate compensation and duties accordingly.JOB SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant performs revenue and general accounting functions with a focus on reconciliations, financial analysis, and reporting. This role requires strong proficiency in Excel and accounting systems to ensure data accuracy, streamline processes, and support month-end close and audit activities.

The position partners with internal stakeholders to promote data integrity and effective use of financial systems.MAJOR DUTIES:Revenue and General AccountingPrepare and distribute invoices, monitor receivables, and record paymentsPrepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentationPerform detailed balance sheet reconciliations, including receivables and deferred revenueSupport revenue recognition and ensure accuracy of financial transactionsAnalyze account activity and investigate variances using Excel and financial systemsContribute to monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentationCollaborate with internal departments to ensure proper coding and accurate financial reportingIdentify and resolve data discrepancies across systemsAuditSupport financial statement and other audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentationRespond to auditor inquiries and assist in resolving issuesPerform periodic reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial recordsSystems and Process ImprovementUtilize advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data analysis tools) to analyze financial dataLeverage accounting systems (e.g., ERP platforms such as NetSuite) to manage and report financial informationIdentify opportunities to improve workflows, automate processes, and enhance data accuracyPolicy and ProcessApply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and institutional policiesMaintain working knowledge of financial systems, payroll, purchasing, and payment processesExecute accounting procedures in accordance with established policies and internal controlsOther DutiesServe as a resource to internal stakeholders on financial processes and system usageCollaborate with central administrative offices on accounting-related mattersParticipate in process documentation and continuous improvement effortsAttend professional development opportunities as appropriatePerform other duties as assignedSKILLS REQUIRED:Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysisExperience working with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite or similar)Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and analyze financial dataExperience supporting month-end close and audit processesStrong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepanciesAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a team environmentHigh level of integrity, discretion, and sound judgmentEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required2–5 years of relevant accounting experience preferredExperience with accounts receivable, revenue accounting, or general ledger strongly preferredExperience with ERP systems and strong Excel skills requiredLOCATION:On-campus or hybrid presence is preferred for this roleFully remote arrangements within the New England region may be considered for candidates with significant experiencePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires sedentary work (exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects). Worker must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, push, pull, use fingertips, grasp, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
