A well-established and growing organization in the construction industry is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team at its corporate headquarters in Culpeper, Virginia. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role offers an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to build upon a strong accounting foundation while gaining exposure to the full accounting cycle in a dynamic operational environment.

Candidates with construction accounting experience are strongly preferred. Individuals with experience within other project-based environments will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the controller with month-end close process
• Prepare and post journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations
• Research, analyze, and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting activities
• Support account analysis and review to ensure completeness and accuracy
• Collaborate with operational teams to support business initiatives and project accounting needs
• Assist with audit preparation and other compliance-related activities
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls
• Participate in special projects and ad hoc reporting requests as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 2+ years of accounting experience preferred
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
• Experience assisting with month-end close activities
• Strong background in general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and journal entries
• Ability to research issues, identify root causes, and resolve discrepancies independently
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Experience with ERP or accounting software systems
• Experience with Foundation software is a plus but is not required; training will be provided
