Sr. Staff Software Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for a contract position (6+ months) to lead a critical in-flight modernization program. This is a remote role based in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for an enterprise modernization program
• Lead WebSphere-to-OpenShift/Kubernetes migration efforts
• Lead Axway MFT replacement and file transfer modernization initiatives
• Design and support hybrid OpenShift and AWS solutions
• Own delivery plans, milestones, risk management, and cutover execution
• Drive resiliency, observability, incident response, and operational excellence
• Partner with architecture, product, security, infrastructure, and operations teams
• Mentor engineers and improve engineering standards across the program
• Ensure strong documentation, automation, and knowledge transfer

Qualifications

• Required
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Proven Technical Lead experience on enterprise production systems
  • Deep Java expertise
  • Experience migrating applications from IBM WebSphere or other Java EE platforms
  • Strong OpenShift/Kubernetes experience
  • AWS experience (S3, IAM, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, Lambda, etc.)
  • Managed File Transfer experience (Axway, MOVEit, IBM Sterling, GoAnywhere, or similar)
  • TypeScript/Node.js proficiency
  • Kafka and/or IBM MQ experience
  • REST and GraphQL API design and implementation
  • PostgreSQL experience
  • CI/CD and cloud-native architecture knowledge
  • Experience leading large-scale migrations or platform retirement initiatives
• Preferred
  • Experience decommissioning legacy platforms
  • Mainframe integration experience
  • Background in financial services or regulated environments
  • Document management/content management systems expertise
  • AWS Transfer Family experience
  • Infrastructure as Code proficiency
  • Prior consulting or contract leadership experience
