We are seeking a visionary and results-oriented Solutions Architect of Merchandising Technology, to lead our company's technological advancements in these critical areas. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating architecting innovative technology solutions that optimize our Merchandising operations in both new and existing applications. You will play a key role in design and lead the architectural foundation and development principles needed to support both major platform implementations/upgrades. The ideal candidate is passionate about designing and leading best-in-breed foundational and next generation architecture solutions for large scale, global implementations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and evaluate current and emerging technologies (e.g., Merchandising Planning, Execution, Pricing, Promotion, Markdown, etc.) that will improve efficiency and performance
- Oversee the architecture design and support of Merchandising technologies inclusive of Core Merchandising, Allocation & Replenishment, Assortment & Space Planning, Merchandise Financial Planning, Product Lifecycle/Information/Experience Management, and Size and Pack optimization
- Manage the care and feeding of a legacy Mainframe system while supporting the strategy to move it into modern technology
- Elevate engineering and solution architecture practices to best in class technology across all retailers
- Create technical architectures that meet scalability, high availability, disaster recovery and security requirements for large-scale, mission critical Merchandising technologies.
- Define deployment configurations that ensures software meets the needs of very large (regional, national, and international) enterprises
- Propose technical solutions to business problems while refining and designing software components in line with technical requirements
- Work closely and drive development teams to drive desired company objectives for systems architecture (encompassing platform, high availability, scalability, security, and the use of third-party software)
- Explore and examine data, integrations, and patterns to support the assessment, design, building, and maintenance of scalable platforms
- Work with system specialists to define operational procedures and best practices
- Identify and analyze technical debt in pre-existing systems and propose solutions to mitigate risks
- Understand security vulnerabilities, attacks, and ability to apply/implement appropriate controls or find new ones based on new technology being developed
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to developers, business and functional analysts, testing teams, compliance, and other IT team members.
- Provide documented technical design proposals, estimates, specifications, and maintenance guides.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Strong foundational knowledge and experience in architecting distributed enterprise systems
- Strong understanding of Merchandising technology including capabilities around legacy and modern retail applications and practices.
- Understanding of MACH and Cloud architecture patterns as we as a variety of database and messaging/streaming technologies including RDBMS, NoSQL, Kafka, and RabbitMQ, MIF, Boomi
- Experience with containerization/orchestration technologies tools like Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes and Swarm
- Experience with distributed caching frameworks such as Redis, Hazelcast, etc.
- Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery using modern DevOps tools
- Preferred knowledge and possibly certification of structured architecture methodologies like Zackman or TOGAF
- High-energy, self-motivated, results-oriented with a “get it done” attitude. Capable of working effectively in a team setting
- Ability to handle changes in direction and work priorities with ease; is positive and level-headed under pressure; adaptable
- Demonstrated passion for quality and innovation with a customer-first attitude
- Leadership experience in managing technology architecture roadmaps and overseeing full life cycle implementations at enterprise scale
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years’ experience developing and architecting enterprise solutions
- Experience in implementing large-scale Merchandising technology solutions.
- A pro-active and self-motivated approach to problem solving which includes curiosity and passion for customer experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deal with complex problems and present recommendations and findings in a clear, concise format.
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as excellent presentation skills with ability to conduct presentations comfortably to large groups and senior leaders
- Experience in multi-vendor eco system with ability to manage conflicts/escalations
