This position will be responsible for leading complex Sports + Recreation + Entertainment projects—from stadiums and arenas to training facilities and mixed-use entertainment districts. In this role, you will partner with the Project Leadership Team to drive project delivery, financial performance, and team coordination, ensuring each project is executed with design excellence, technical quality, and a high level of client service.ResponsibilitiesLead multidisciplinary teams delivering large-scale S+R+E projectsCollaborate with the Project Leadership Team to align design, technical execution, and client goalsPartner with senior leadership on project scope, fees, contracts, and delivery strategiesContribute to and lead client presentations, stakeholder meetings, and design workshopsEnsure clear, proactive communication across owners, operators, consultants, and internal teamsManage project performance using Deltek, including budgets, schedules, staffing, and change managementChampion HOK's Quality Management Program and design excellence standardsIntegrate sustainable, resilient, and high-performance design strategies into venue projectsProject ManagementPlan and manage multiple complex projects from concept through post-occupancyCoordinate closely with Project Architects to mitigate scheduling conflicts due to changes in various projects.Lead regular team meetings, track deliverables, and maintain accountability across disciplinesCoordinate with specialty consultants (e.g., structural, MEP, acoustics, lighting, AV, food service, security)Oversee construction administration, ensuring design intent and quality are maintained in the fieldNavigate fast-paced schedules and high-visibility project milestonesClient & Stakeholder EngagementServe as a primary point of contact for clients, including team owners, developers, and operatorsManage relationships with key stakeholders such as municipalities, user groups, and community partnersGuide clients through programming, planning, and design decisions—including fan experience, premium spaces, back-of-house operations, and revenue-generating amenitiesProvide leadership in resolving complex project challenges and competing stakeholder prioritiesBusiness DevelopmentSupport growth of the Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice in Kansas City and across the regionIdentify and pursue new opportunities in sports, recreation, and entertainment marketsParticipate in high-profile pursuits, interviews, and proposal developmentAssist in crafting compelling fee proposals and project narrativesStaff Leadership & DevelopmentMentor and develop team members within the Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practiceHelp define project staffing strategies and resource allocationProvide input on performance, career development, and team growthParticipate in recruiting and building a strong, diverse teamQualificationsBachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required; Master's degree preferred10+ years of experience, including leadership of complex, large-scale projects.Experience with sports, recreation, entertainment, or large public assembly venues strongly preferredLicensed Architect preferred (or actively pursuing licensure)NCARB certification preferredLEED accreditation or Green Associate preferredStrong understanding of project financials, scheduling, and delivery methodsExperience coordinating large, multidisciplinary teams and specialty consultantsExcellent communication and client management skills, especially with high-profile stakeholdersAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
