Senior Product Manager – Cloud & Connected Products
Braeburn Systems / ComtecNova
Dallas–Fort Worth, TX
The Opportunity
Braeburn is looking for a technically strong Senior Product Manager – Cloud & Connected Products to own and evolve the digital ecosystem behind our connected thermostats.
For us, the cloud is a product .
Our connected-product platform extends far beyond the thermostat itself. It includes the cloud infrastructure, mobile applications, APIs, device connectivity, monitoring, third-party integrations, testing environments, cybersecurity, and the services required to keep thousands of connected devices operating reliably.
This role will own that ecosystem from a product, technical, operational, and customer-experience perspective .
You will work at the intersection of:
What You Will Own
Cloud Product Ownership
- Own the roadmap and lifecycle of the Braeburn connected cloud platform.
- Define priorities, requirements, enhancements, releases, and future capabilities.
- Translate customer, business, and product needs into clear technical requirements.
- Maintain visibility into the complete connected-product architecture.
- Prioritize investments across reliability, security, features, performance, and customer experience.
- Ensure the cloud platform evolves together with our thermostat hardware and firmware roadmap.
Connected Product Architecture
Develop a strong understanding of the entire ecosystem:
Thermostat → Wi-Fi → Cloud → API → Database → Mobile App → Third-Party Platform
Coordinate dependencies across:
- Thermostat firmware
- AWS infrastructure
- Cloud services
- Databases
- APIs
- iOS applications
- Android applications
- Web services
- Third-party integrations
You should be technically comfortable enough to understand how these components interact and where problems may originate.
Mobile App & Digital Experience
Own the connected-product experience across:
- iOS
- Android
- Web
- Cloud APIs
- Thermostat firmware
Stay ahead of changes from Apple, Google, AWS, and other technology providers that could affect the product.
Coordinate compatibility and regression testing across different:
- Phone models
- Operating-system versions
- App versions
- Thermostat models
- Firmware versions
- Cloud releases
Work with development teams to ensure changes are properly tested before deployment.
Cloud Reliability & Operations
Help ensure the connected platform is stable and scalable.
Work with technologies and tools such as:
- AWS
- CloudWatch
- Grafana
- Sentry
- Application logs
- API monitoring
- Watchdogs and automated alerts
- GitHub
- CI/CD pipelines
Drive proactive monitoring of system health rather than waiting for customer problems to appear.
Troubleshooting & Root-Cause Analysis
When a customer or system issue occurs, help determine whether the problem originates in the:
Thermostat → Network → Cloud → API → Database → Mobile App → Third-Party Service
You will coordinate root-cause analysis and ensure problems are driven through resolution.
This is not a full-time software-development position, but we want someone who is technically curious and comfortable getting hands-on.
The ideal candidate can examine API responses, logs, dashboards, errors, network behavior, or code and intelligently work with engineers to isolate a problem.
Connected Ecosystem & Integrations
Own and coordinate integrations with platforms such as:
- Amazon Alexa
- Google Home
- IFTTT
- Public APIs
- Demand-response platforms
- Utility integrations
- OpenADR
- Messaging and notification services
- Future smart-building and energy-management platforms
Manage API changes, authentication, integration requirements, testing, documentation, and partner coordination.
Software Development Partner Management
Our cloud software is supported by external software-development partners.
This role will maintain strong internal product ownership while working closely with those partners.
Responsibilities include:
- Define product priorities and development requirements.
- Maintain and prioritize the product backlog.
- Review development plans and estimates.
- Coordinate software releases.
- Manage defects and enhancements.
- Challenge technical assumptions when appropriate.
- Review architecture recommendations.
- Ensure proper technical documentation.
- Drive accountability for quality and delivery.
- Reduce dependency on individual vendors by maintaining internal platform knowledge.
Product Quality & Release Management
Establish disciplined processes around:
- Regression testing
- Device compatibility testing
- Firmware/cloud/app interoperability
- Release readiness
- Production deployment
- Incident response
- Root-cause analysis
- Bug prioritization
- Security updates
- Cloud infrastructure changes
Maintain visibility into:
- Platform uptime
- App performance
- Open defects
- Customer-impacting issues
- Upcoming releases
- Technical debt
- Platform risks
- Development priorities
What We Are Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in Product Management, IoT, connected products, cloud software, software engineering, or related technology roles.
- Experience owning a cloud-based or connected digital product.
- Strong understanding of modern cloud architecture, preferably AWS.
- Experience with IoT or physical connected devices.
- Experience with mobile applications and iOS/Android release environments.
- Understanding of APIs, REST services, databases, authentication, and cloud integrations.
- Experience working with software-development teams and external development partners.
- Knowledge of software-development lifecycle, QA, regression testing, releases, and production support.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Sentry, CloudWatch, or similar platforms.
- Ability to communicate effectively with software engineers, firmware engineers, product teams, executives, vendors, and customers.
Particularly Valuable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be highly desirable:
- Smart thermostats
- HVAC controls
- Building automation
- Smart-home products
- Energy management
- Demand response
- OpenADR
- AWS IoT
- MQTT
- IoT device provisioning
- Alexa or Google Home integrations
- Embedded-device-to-cloud architecture
- IoT cybersecurity
- CI/CD
- GitHub
- Automated testing
- Mobile-device testing and emulators
Hands-On Technical Capability
You do not need to be a full-time software developer.
However, candidates with enough technical background to review or troubleshoot code will have an advantage.
Experience with languages such as:
- Python
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Java
- C#
- SQL
is valuable but not mandatory.
We are looking for someone who can go beyond saying, “The software company is working on it.”
You should be able to ask the right technical questions, understand the answers, challenge assumptions, and help drive the team toward the root cause.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
You naturally think about the entire connected-product experience , not just one component.
You are comfortable discussing cloud architecture with an engineer in the morning, reviewing a mobile-app issue after lunch, evaluating a customer connectivity problem in the afternoon, and discussing the future product roadmap with leadership later that day.
You understand that for a connected thermostat, the product does not end at the wall.
The thermostat, cloud, mobile app, APIs, integrations, and digital services together create the customer experience.
If you enjoy owning that entire ecosystem, we would like to hear from you.
