Senior Mechanical Designer

We are seeking five experienced Senior Mechanical Designers to support automotive weld-tooling projects at the engineering facility in Warren.

This is a tooling-design position, not an automotive product-design role. Candidates must have significant experience using CATIA to design weld tooling, fixtures, and automated assembly equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Design automotive weld tooling and fixtures using CATIA.
  • Develop 3D models, layouts, assemblies, details, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Design tooling for automated automotive body-shop and welding applications.
  • Incorporate clamps, pins, locating units, grippers, weld-gun access, sensors, and related tooling components.
  • Review customer specifications and apply applicable tooling standards.
  • Collaborate with project engineers, manufacturing-support teams, tool builders, and other designers.
  • Support design reviews, engineering changes, build questions, and tooling corrections.
  • Ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and suitable for assembly and installation.
  • Complete assigned projects in accordance with customer quality and timing requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of automotive weld-tooling design experience.
  • Professional experience using CATIA for mechanical tooling design.
  • Experience designing weld fixtures, BIW tooling, body-shop equipment, or automated assembly tooling.
  • Ability to develop and detail tooling—not simply modify automotive product components.
  • Understanding of tooling construction, manufacturing, assembly, and design-for-build principles.
  • Ability to interpret layouts, customer standards, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Honda program or Honda tooling-standard experience.
  • Experience with body-side, underbody, framing, geo, or respot tooling.
  • Experience supporting designs through build, tryout, debug, or installation.
  • Previous experience with an automotive automation or tooling integrator.

Please note: Candidates whose experience is primarily automotive product design, vehicle components, interiors, trim, Class-A surfaces, or product packaging will not be considered without substantial weld-tooling design experience.
