About This Job

Senior Manager, Financial Reporting leads the company’s financial reporting processes to ensure financial information is reported in compliance with GAAP and SEC requirements. This position oversees the preparation and analysis of financial information, reviews financial statements, selected reports to senior management, and other analyses prepared by direct reports. It shares subject‑matter expertise with business partners in Accounting and other areas to determine appropriate accounting treatment and disclosures for transactions, supports the development of accounting policies, and implements accounting pronouncements. The Senior Manager works closely with Investor Relations, Legal, Treasury, Tax, Audit Service departments, senior and executive management, and external auditors. The role provides significant exposure to the company’s senior executive team to advise on financial statement disclosure and SEC compliance.

What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead and review the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, SEC filings, earnings releases, and annual proxy statement, including review of supporting documentation
  • Review monthly and quarterly financial schedules, analyses and reconciliations; review and approve journal entries
  • Participate in and/or lead special projects and meetings
  • Participate in and review research on technical issues or developments, and provide subject‑matter expertise in developing accounting policies and implementing new disclosure requirements
  • Direct, lead and develop a team of associates through timely performance feedback, file reviews and annual performance reviews; create individual development plans and business objectives to enhance associate growth
  • Support the external audit process, including review of client‑prepared schedules for quarterly audit reviews, SOX 404 testing and financial reporting process documentation

  • Ability to act with confidence in the face of unclear or challenging conditions and adapt rapidly to change or unexpected obstacles

Education And/or Experience

  • Four‑year degree in Accounting and/or Finance and current Certified Public Accountant license required
  • Seven or more years of relevant accounting experience, including five or more years in public accounting (Big 4 firm preferred) and/or corporate financial reporting with significant exposure to SEC reporting requirements
  • Three or more years of experience leading teams to achieve common goals, including supervising and developing direct and/or indirect reports
  • Strong accounting skills including extensive knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting requirements and XBRL
  • Demonstrated experience preparing, analyzing and reviewing financial statements, notes to financial statements and other supplementary information (e.g., Management’s Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), exhibits, etc.)
  • Previous experience with XBRL taxonomy and tagging of financial statements and notes preferred
  • Previous project management experience
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Workiva

Work Authorization

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

Employment

This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office (Richmond, VA) and associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

Salary

$127,500.00 - $204,000.00
