Role Description The Sr. Hardware Engineer role is a full-time, hybrid position based in the Greater Chicago Area, with the flexibility to work from home part of the time. This role designs, develops, and validates electronic hardware for commercial food and beverage equipment, including schematics, PCB layouts, component selection, and system integration. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and reviewing engineering documentation, performing analysis and testing, troubleshooting hardware issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and product management. The Sr. Hardware Engineer will contribute to new product development, support design improvements for existing platforms, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and safety regulations. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers, participating in design reviews, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across projects.

Qualifications

  • Strong electronic hardware design skills, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection for embedded and power electronics systems.
  • Experience with hardware validation and testing, such as debugging, failure analysis, and use of lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers).
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (e.g., safety, EMC/EMI, UL/CE) and experience designing for reliability and manufacturability.
  • Proficiency with CAD and EDA tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, or similar) and familiarity with version control and documentation systems.
  • Ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts clearly, and contribute to design reviews and project planning.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, with several years of hardware design experience in a product development environment.
  • Experience in commercial appliances, foodservice equipment, or industrial controls is beneficial, as is exposure to firmware integration and system-level design.
