Sr. Application Engineer, Data Center Power GenerationLocation: Chicago, IL, USIngersoll Rand is seeking an experienced Application Engineer responsible for the technical application, specification, and integration of medium-voltage (typically 400V–13.8 kV) generator systems in the 2.5 MW and above range supporting mission-critical data center backup power. This role serves as the primary technical interface between customers, consulting engineers, sales, and internal engineering teams, ensuring reliable and compliant deployment of MV generator plants in hyperscale and colocation environments.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary technical resource supporting data center sales opportunitiesDevelop and present technical solutions based on customer requirementsLead RFQ/RFP responses, including system design, specifications, and documentationSize and specify MV generator systems (?2 MW) and associated distribution equipmentDevelop one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and protection schemesSupport integration with UPS, BMS, switchgear, and utility systemsPerform system analysis (load flow, short circuit, and system performance)Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, and data center standardsPartner with customers, consulting engineers, EPC firms, and suppliersSupport FAT, commissioning, and field troubleshootingProvide technical training and contribute to product development initiativesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)5–10+ years of experience in power generation, electrical engineering, or related fieldExperience with medium-voltage systems and generator applicationsDirect experience with data center or mission-critical environments preferredAbility to interpret electrical drawings and specificationsWorking knowledge of protection systems, controls, and power distributionProficiency with tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower (preferred)Preferred experience with major OEMs: CAT, Cummins, Generac, MTU, KohlerKey SkillsStrong technical problem-solving and analytical skillsAbility to develop and communicate complex system solutionsKnowledge of MV equipment, relay protection, and synchronization systemsEffective communication and customer engagement skillsAbility to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentTravel Requirements25%-50%Why Join Ingersoll RandBe part of a high-growth, high-impact market powering the digital economyWork in a culture that values ownership, accountability, and continuous improvementCollaborate with a team committed to innovation, operational excellence, and customer successPlay a critical role in securing strategic, multi-year platform wins that shape the future of mission-critical infrastructureWhat We Value at Ingersoll RandWe think and act like owners.
